Thank you for visiting Inca Alpaca online. Learn about the history of the alpaca in their native land, how alpacas have adapted to the UK environment and why we farm alpacas as a viable rural enterprise here in England. On our site you will learn how you can become part of this emerging and sophisticated rural industry for healthy financial returns and outstanding lifestyle. In addition to general information on alpacas, the site carries a list of our alpacas standing at stud and the alpacas we have for sale here in the UK available for European export through our dedicated quarantine facility.

Recently we have carried out our annual review of performance levels amongst our entire herd. Shearing followed by the complete sale of our alpaca fleece prompted us to reflect on why we are dedicating our lives to breeding better alpacas. Year after year we continue to breed our alpacas for higher productivity and predictability. We feel that the only way we can be competitive on the world stage is to breed denser and finer fleeces that grow a longer length of staple. When the UK industry has enough fibre to begin to significantly lower processing costs and supply the growing demand for alpaca products, the commercial arm of the British Alpaca Industry needs to be able to stand on it's own two feet and grow a commercial product cost effectively. We welcome new comers to this exciting industry and are happy to share our experience in order to grow the national herd.

Thank you and please get in touch for more info and to arrange a farm visit. Tim and Tracey Hey.

Breeding Coloured Alpacas

– article for all black alpaca breeders as
published in Alpaca World Magazine.

I was delighted to be asked to write a few words about my passion for breeding
black huacayas and to share the knowledge I have gained. I began by thinking
about the major lessons that I have learnt over the years. The common goals
most breeders of this fantastic animal share, is to breed an alpaca that is fit for
function and carries as much fine fibre as possible. Breeding for black is no exception.
However, we still know little about breeding up the quality of a coloured alpaca that
has, until very recently, rarely been selectively bred.
